If your birthday falls between October 23 and November 21, this one’s for you. Scorpio season doesn’t do soft and pastel, and your birthday photoshoot shouldn’t either.
The energy of Scorpio season this year
Scorpio energy can be intense, magnetic, and a little unreadable on purpose. The goal isn’t to perform that. It’s to let the camera catch what’s already there: a direct gaze instead of a soft smile, stillness instead of movement, and confidence that doesn’t need to explain itself.
Scorpio season is carrying extra weight this year, with both Venus and Mercury retrograde in the sign. The energy is all about emotional honesty, facing whatever has been left unsaid, and letting go of what you’ve outgrown. On camera, that shows up as a woman who isn’t hiding anything, so that’s how I’ll direct you: steady eye contact, nothing performed, and nothing softened to make anyone else comfortable.
Styling direction
- Color: deep jewel tones like wine, emerald, black, and deep navy. Skip pastels entirely this season.
- Texture: leather, silk, tulle (surprisingly), anything that’s a little outside the box, with taste.
- Makeup: a bold lip or a deep, smoky eye. Pick one strong feature so they’re not competing.
Light and location
This is the one birthday photoshoot in Austin, Texas that actually wants less light, not more. Think shadowy instead of bright and airy, like a dim studio with a single light source. Moody sensual, and in command. Scorpio season is the rare birthday that photographs beautifully in the conditions most sessions try to avoid.
Posing direction
Less candid and more held eye contact with the lens. Chin slightly down, gaze straight through the camera. Stillness reads as power here, so we resist the urge to fill every frame with motion.
The point of this
A birthday photoshoot built around who you really at this point in your life will always feel more like you than one built from a generic template, and Scorpio gives us a strong place to start. If this is your season, click below 🙂
